This picture-book biography and its accompanying DVD introduce two men who made significant contributions during the American Revolution. The story begins with two Polish expatriates in Paris who separately traveled across the Atlantic to help the Americans defeat the British forces. After Wales introduces both men, he refers readers to the DVD pocketed inside the book's front cover for more information about Pulaski, who is barely mentioned again in the text. The discussion turns to Kosciuszko, whose military engineering skills contributed significantly to the American victory at the Battle of Saratoga and the successful defense of West Point. Action scenes, maps, and sensitive portraits are among the handsome ink drawings with color washes that appear on every page of the book. A very attractive choice for students seeking information on these unsung heroes. --Carolyn Phelan Copyright 2007 Booklist
