Gr 4-8-Trueit features examples from the famous diary of Anne Frank to the 1000 Journals Project to Web journaling to spark the imaginations of young people eager to express their unique views. Tips on how to begin, exercises designed to help overcome writer's block, and a 30-day calendar of creative ideas to get started are included. Alternatives to writing, such as drawing, collecting photographs, or scrapbooking, are also encouraged. Web sites, books, and CD-ROMs are suggested as further resources. A few black-and-white photographs of others' journals enhance the print content. The enthusiastic tone, inspirational examples, and writing prompts will help even those reluctant to express themselves to pick up a pen or pencil. A first purchase for public and school libraries.-Sharon A. Neal, Alvernia College, Reading, PA (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
